Les Chevaux de Guerre

Bonjour tout le monde! The project between Nga Diocesan School in Marton, NZ, and the College Jules Ferry in Conty, France, is going well.

So far my pupils have all written letters to prospective penpals and are currently awaiting responses. My senior pupils and I have visited the memorial in Bulls to Bess, the only horse to return to NZ after 4 years of war. We made a film of our visit and sent it to Conty. On the same day we went to the Army Museum in Waiouru where there was a fascinating...

Newlands College France Trip 2014

On 21 April, 15 students from Newlands College head to France for 3 weeks, spending time exploring the sights of Paris before heading to Nice, where students will attend language classes and enjoy the hospitality of local homestays.  We are fortunate as a group to have been invited to participate in ANZAC commemorations in Le Quesnoy on Sunday 27 April, the town liberated by kiwi soldiers towards the end of World War I, and we also have the opportunity to explore the Arras tunnels following the...

Shared Histories: Notre projet à Columba College

Shared Histories: Notre projet à Columba College

Our project is well underway!

Our first idea was to research using Columba College school magazines dating from 1915, when our school opened, to 1917. In these, we found the names of several soldiers with connections to our college.

A letter to the school community revealed several current students with family connections to those who fought in France during World War I. Our next step is to further research these soldiers and share this new information with our partner school in France.

An...

Shaped by the past, creating the future

Les Invalides 2011

We are starting to work on our book project and classes in English, French, German, Art and History will be busy over the next two terms getting work on our focus completed. We are going on a month long tour to France starting Wednesday April 9th and we will be visiting the NZ war graves and Somme battlefields to visit the graves of former PNBHS Old Boys who died in the Great War serving NZ. This will also form the basis of some of our project work with our partner school in Hirson.

Le nouveau coquelicot est arrivé

Mrs Wilson-Fouracre's year 8 class with French poppies

Our little friends in Amiens crafted poppies for year 8 and sent them together with a video where they all introduced themselves. Year 8 at St Margaret's will wear their poppies made in France proudly on ANZAC Day and are now about to craft some for their French buddies.
