Waimea College students have begun connecting with their new friends at Val de Seine, via all manner of platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and emails. Family photos and pics of beloved pets are shared, first friendships are formed. It’s wonderful to see them come into school with news of their latest exchanges and how excited both sides are to establish this connection and begin our project.

We are very fortunate to have a wonderful Library and Information Centre at Waimea College and its’ director is the inspiring Dinah Warren. She has been so supportive of our project and WW100 is close to her family’s heart – but that’s a story for another blog post!

Our first research has begun as we look into the biographies of local Richmond soldiers and nurses. Dinah has contacted the Archivist at Nelson Provincial Museum and we are planning a visit there early in Term 1 2015.  Their new website link http://ww100.nelsonmuseum.co.nz/ has proved invaluable as a resource and inspired many of the students today as they begin their first research which will form the basis of our writing project further down the track.

Over the summer break the students will continue to maintain contact and early in Term 1 we will continue with our research and begin our writing project.
