What have we been been up to?

Very excited to read the research documents from our partners at the Val de Seine and enjoy continued contact between students and their partners.
We are preparing to letters in response to research into Richmond soldiers.

Wide reading fosters sense of relevance

Although most of our students are aware that it is the 100th year anniversary of WW1 and that there is plenty of information available for them on TV , internet etc. we think that the actual event is too far removed from, and not really relevant to their lives.

Too many generations have passed by, and for most families oral history of the event seems to have somehow been forgotten over time or overtaken by more recent wars and tragic events.

Early research begins our project

Dinah Warren discusses research with students

Waimea College students have begun connecting with their new friends at Val de Seine, via all manner of platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and emails. Family photos and pics of beloved pets are shared, first friendships are formed. It’s wonderful to see them come into school with news of their latest exchanges and how excited both sides are to establish this connection and begin our project.

We are very fortunate to have a wonderful Library and Information Centre at Waimea College and its’...
