My name is Abigail Marshall and I go to Waimea College in beautiful Nelson, New Zealand.
I enjoy singing, reading, spending time with my adorable cats and hanging out with my friends (when I get the chance!).
I am extremely excited to have been chosen to be a Young Ambassador for the Shared Histories Project, 2016.
I love learning about history and am currently studying the Battle of the Somme. It is a huge honour to be able to go there in a few months to lay wreaths for the roughly one million men - including New Zealanders - who were casualties there 100 years ago.
I am determined that this will not turn into a glossy, exciting, I-get-to-meet-important-people opportunity. While some of that is true (!!), I believe it is important that we do not forsake the gravity of the battle we are commemorating.
Having said that, we must ensure that this project is a positive experience; by meeting new people and creating new, brighter relations between our countries.
