Our WWI Class Journey

Our class at Long Bay College Our class at Long Bay College

Hi, we're year 9 A1 Social Science, taught by Miss Foster!

We're from Long Bay College in Auckland, New Zealand. Our class is very interesting, it's full of determined and curious students. What makes our class interesting is mostly that we love our amazing teacher Miss Foster. Our teacher (who is obsessed with cats) taught us about how WWI started and how nearly every country slowly joined the war because of their alliances and how these effected each country differently.

Our class was really excited to receive a package from College Leon Dautrement, Meyssac. The package contained old newspaper articles and imaginary soldiers letters that the students from College Leon Dautrement created. The package also contained photos of the class and Miss Foster, from her visit last year and a hand-written letter from the class informing us that they would visit WW1 battlefields in March this year and that they would send us photos and information from this school visit. They also informed us, in the letter, that they would like to organize an exhibition in March or June.

During the course of term one, we have compared the differences between French and New Zealand soldiers serving in the First World War and how the war effected the countries. We also compared the similarities between Long Bay College and College Leon Dautrement. Each of us got into a partnership. Each partnership picked a topic to focus on and a battle to study in World War one, with this information we created posters.  Each partnership created a fact file on the battle that they chose.
