What is Shared Histories?

An online school partnership programme, where schools meet and explore the Commemoration of World War 1, and develop a common understanding of the Duty of Remembrance.

Why join the Shared Histories programme?

Do you want your students to be involved in the Commemoration of WW1? Do you want them to meet others in the process, from different countries so that they experience different backgrounds and geographical settings? Do you want them to use and develop an appreciation for others' language and culture?
The intention of the programme is to provide students with the opportunity to discover the profound significance and impact of the sacrifices made by participating countries and territories through interacting and exchanging in an authentic context. Read more.

Who can join the programme?

Any New Zealand, Australian or French school who wants to embed a historic project of significance in their programme of work for the duration of the Commemoration period and co-construct this project with a different language partner school.

The second call for project is now live and the deadline for project submission is late October 2014.

What is the role of the SharedHistories.com platform?

SharedHistories.com supports the creation of commemorative projects by:
- publishing a directory of schools seeking partners
- enabling you to create partnerships easily and in your own time - you have total autonomy over the process
- equipping the schools with the tools (blogs, forums, resources) to keep traces of their project development.

What are the functions I can use on the platform?

SharedHistories.com is the meeting place where you will:
- meet your partner school
- plan and submit a project together
- keep the journal (blog) of the development of your project.

SharedHistories.com also gives visibility and authentic audience and interaction to your project with the blog and associated social media.

How does this work?

First create a school project leader profile so that your school features on the School seeking partners’ list.
The username and password for your profile are your login credentials.
When you are logged in you can:
- connect with a school of your choice and request a partnership
- plan and submit a project outline
- blog
- use the forums
You have total autonomy over the process you and your partner put in place.

I already have a partner and we have started a WW1 project: can I benefit from SharedHistories.com?

Yes all you need to do is to submit your project as a Shared Histories project.
To do so both partners create a profile then partner (as a formality). Fill in your project outline and submit it. If you have been working together for a while, this won’t take long to complete!

Can parents, community members take part?

Parents, family and friends of your school community are actively encouraged to take part.
They can do so by creating a Community Member profile. They can then leave comments on blogs and participate in forums.
