Online exhibition

I recently came across this WWI online exhibition on the Auckland Libraries website (which also takes physical form at the Central City library) which was very informative and interesting. Of special interest to me were, of course, documents and other ephemera related to women.

This British poster from from 1917 targets women to encourage their husbands, sons and brothers to fight by reinforcing the idea that men are not worthy unless they are willing to fight for their country.

Où le soleil se couche tard

It is only now that I realise how quickly this year has unravelled before me, as I approach spring and exams and the end of high school. The trip has been the pinnacle point of my year, no doubt, and now I understand why the months preluding this trip passed me by with such uneasy rapidity; the impending trip lingering in the not-so-distant future. Marie Marvingt

An inspiration

The Women behind the WW1 scenes

We think of our men, our boys, barely 18, saying farewell to their families as they sail off to fight for their country. We think of loyalty, camaraderie, brotherhood. We think of blood, violence, the fragility of human life. We think of the creators of war, the men behind the...
