Fresh crêpes, cobbled streets, photo booths and Parisiens smoking with cool refinement. Over the last week the two Year 12 History classes at Baradene College have each visited the first exhibition to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War at the Auckland War Memorial Museum in Auckland, New Zealand. Bonjour à tous!

So I’m back in New Zealand after an unforgettable trip to France! I had the time of my life with the other Young Ambassadors, creating lifelong memories and friendships in France and Belgium.

This last week at school has been a harsh reality after the incredible experience of the Shared Histories Young Ambassadors tour to France. It was an opportunity that will stay with me for a long time being able to represent my country, visiting the sites and memorials of the First World War and most of all making great friends and having a great time with the other 10 ambassadors.

Meeting the young ambassadors in Péronne!

We were very glad to meet the young ambassadors in Péronne last Friday. We met in front of the museum of the Great War that they were about to visit. Among them there was Huia, a young student from our partner school ( Stratford)! So, we were lucky to meet her!

It’s a shame that we are actually on summer holidays otherwise we’d have liked to take a few of our students to meet them.

VERDUN

A short view of the most important moment of French WW1 history. The attrition battle of Verdun in 1916 and now the most sacred place in French memory of that war.
