Notre devoir en tant que futur citoyens est de se souvenir et d’honorer la mémoire des soldats qui ont combattus durant la guerre afin que leurs sacrifices ne soient pas vain.

Je sais que j’ai un ancêtre qui a participé à la première guerre mondiale mais je n’ai pas plus que son nom ; Paul Lherbier mon arrière arrière arrière grand-père.

Mais pendants mes recherches pour le concours j’ai été très touché par l’histoire de Ruth Newton la nièce d’un soldat néo-zélandais mort en France et son amitié entre elle et mon pays. C’est grâce à cette magnifique histoire que j’ai pu remporter ce concours.

L’année dernière pendant ma première année au Lycée quelques étudiants néo-zélandais étaient venus pour la même occasion. J’avais été très impressionnée et c’était avec plaisir que j’ai travaillé pour leur présenter un peu ma région avec mes camarades de classe et Mme Queant ma professeure d’anglais.

Quand l’occasion s’est présentée de faire la même chose et de rencontrer à nouveau des étudiants néo-zélandais pour une cause aussi respectable que la mémoire de nos anciens et l’amitié de nos deux pays j’ai été très heureuse de pouvoir participer a ce concours.

C’est une fierté de représenter mon pays et ma génération en tant que jeune ambassadrice et de pouvoir découvrir un aussi beau pays que la Nouvelle-Zélande un pays que je me suis promis de visiter un jour dans ma vie. Je suis très reconnaissante.

My name is Camille F, I’m 16 and I live in the North of France. I love reading, listening to music go out with my family and my friends. I am very sociable and enthusiastic.

The First World War is one of the most important periods in our History. Our duty as future citizen is to remember and to honor the memory of soldiers who fought during the war so that their sacrifices are not in vain. I know that I have an ancestor who took to the First World War but all I have is a name: Paul Lherbier.

But during my research for the contest I was very touched by the story of Ruth Newton, the niece of a kiwi soldier who died during the explosion of the Beffroi in Arras and the friendship between her and my country. This is a very moving example of the friendship between France and New-Zealand. It’s thanks to this story that I was able to win this contest.

Last year during my first year of High School some New-Zealand students came for the same occasion. I was very impressed and it was a real pleasure to work with my classmates and my English teacher Mrs Queant to introduce a bit the north of France.

When the opportunity came to do the same things and to meet again New Zealand students for a cause as respectable as the memory of our elders and the friendship between our two countries I was very happy to be able to take part of the contest.

It’s a pride to represent my country and my generation as a young ambassador and to be able to discover a country as beautiful as New Zealand, a country that I’ve always promised to myself to visit one day. I’m very thankful.
