Senior French students from Newlands College are getting excited about their forthcoming trip to France in just 5 weeks. After spending a week in Paris, absorbing the culture and taking in the sights, they will then head to Nice, where they will spend 10 days in homestays and school. Some of our students are busy preparing speeches to deliver at ANZAC commemorations in Antibes on 25 April, which is a day our whole group will be attending.
Newlands College students only have 7 weeks to go until departing for France. We are looking forward to commemorating ANZAC Day in Antibes this year, and our students have been invited to speak at this event. A link to the day's events is here: http://www.anzac-antibes.com/
Between 18 April and 6 May, 15 students from Newlands College in Wellington participated in a 3 week language and culture trip to France. The group was firstly based in Paris, before heading down to homestays and language classes in Nice. One of the highlights of our time in Paris was a day-trip to Le Quesnoy for ANZAC commemorations, followed by a tour of the Arras tunnels. Students performed an emotional waiata at the mayoral reception in the Le Quesnoy town hall after the ceremony itself.
Newlands College in Wellington has recently formed a partnership under the Shared Histories project with Collège Louis Nucera in Nice. We are looking forward to working together to share stories from our communities and their involvement in World War I, and our students are currently in the process of introducing themselves to one another online.
In April 2016, 15 Newlands College students are heading to France for 3 weeks, spending time in Paris and in Nice. We will be heading to Le Quesnoy...
