In History, our internal was to ‘Research an historical event/place of significance to New Zealanders, using primary and secondary sources’, and my topic was, of course, the First World War. I chose to focus my inquiry on a topic that I could use also for my Young Ambassador personal inquiry, so I researched ‘Soldier’s lives...

a start by St Dominic's

Hello, we are a group at Saint Dominic’s Catholic College in Auckland, New Zealand and we are excited to learn more about the women’s roles in the war. We are constantly learning new facts as we progress further ahead. We are very committed and are working hard on this topic. We are all looking forward to working with our French school and sharing information. We have realised that the women’s roles in the war were just as important as the men’s as they had to take the men’s jobs and earn money...

Disobedience, Rebellion and Conscientious Objectors

Field Punishment No.1 (The Crucifixion)

We have been doing a lot of prep work for this. We have our inquiry focus questions and from that have decided that the first steps will be on the focus of pacifism before WWI, conscientious objectors and opposition to conscription. These first steps will be heavily scaffolded with research booklets and specific tasks. Here is the focus of the students inquiry.
I think that as the students put together work they can report their progress via blogposts:

Disobedience and Rebellion of Soldiers and...

The Women behind the WW1 scenes

We think of our men, our boys, barely 18, saying farewell to their families as they sail off to fight for their country. We think of loyalty, camaraderie, brotherhood. We think of blood, violence, the fragility of human life. We think of the creators of war, the men behind the...

Collecter les fonds!

Vendredi, sept mars

My school has been generous enough to hold a gold-coin mufti day to raise funds for my trip to France. I couldn’t be more appreciative that they’ve helped me out in this way, and of course I intend to share back the generosity with the knowledge/information that I gain from my experience as a Young Ambassador.

As well as holding a mufti day, I put on a bake sale. Friends from my French and History classes helped put a bunch of baking together for us to sell to other...

Beyond Perception

My question is going to focus on perception and in a nutshell it is:

To what extent has the perception of New Zealand War efforts during World War One evolved over time the last hundred years?

I will particularly focus on recognition (In terms of acknowledgement and appreciation) shown towards soldiers in New Zealand...

Bonjour à tous!

Bonjour à tous!

Voici mon premier blog. I wanted to begin my first post with a bit of French just to get into the habit and I may make some of these posts with the majority in French.

In this first post I wanted to talk briefly on what I plan to achieve and create with the inquiry project we...

I am very excited to be one of the ten Young Ambassadors for the commemoration tour in France this year. After years of poring over countless photos of the Eiffel Towerʼs every angle, and imagining myself walking along the Seine on a dreamy Parisian day, it is finally reality that I will actually be there in July. Admittedly, I still canʼt quite fathom the possibility that this dream trip is actually going to happen to me. It really is one of...
