Bonjour tout le monde!
Firstly, thank you to everyone for all the help and support I have received so far. The amount of positive feedback and support I’ve had from students, teachers, schools and my local community has been overwhelming and it’s a privilege to be representing you all!
For me, the last few weeks have been pretty busy, as my Young Ambassador’s Project has started to get into full swing. Following my article in The Southland Times, I had an incredible response from people in my community offering different information, photos and stories to help me with my personal project. Over the last couple of weeks I have been ringing these people to see what information I can find that is relevant to my project. I found this particularly interesting, as I’ve been able to learn specifically about people from my area, who had involvement in the war.
In order to be able to compare and contrast the lives of teenagers living in France and New Zealand today with the lives of teenagers living in France and New Zealand 100 years ago, I have come up with a generic questionnaire so that I can establish some similarities and differences between these people. For this I will be comparing my life (a teenager living in New Zealand in 2014) and my pen pal Salomé’s life (a teenager living in France in 2014), with life for teenagers one hundred years ago. Both myself and Salomé are in the process of filling this questionnaire out.
As preparation for my trip, our school’s Deputy Principal/fabulous History teacher, Mr Davis has offered to help me learn about World War One and some of the many places we will visit on our trip. With his help, I’m hoping to develop a better knowledge about places we will visit and the involvement New Zealand had within these places.
(Last weekend I was able to meet up with two of the Young Ambassadors, Ailish and Harriet in Dunedin. It was super cool to get to know these girls and already we have so much in common! I’m really looking forward to getting to meet the rest of the Young Ambassadors before we head away together!)
À bientôt!
Wonderful to see the three of you meeting up, making connections and plans together. What fantastic representatives for the South Island!
