Bonne Année!
What a year 2014 was. It marked the end of an era being my final year of school. I finished on a high, with the Young Ambassadors Trip certainly being one of the highlights of my 13 years at school.
Looking back on the trip there are two main things I can take away from it, that will benefit me for the rest of my life.
The people:
Who would have thought a group of 11 teenagers from around the country who had never met before, would get along so well? I certainly...
2014 marks the 150th birthday of New Zealand's oldest Army regiment, Queen Alexandra's Mounted Rifle.
To mark this milestone, the regiment which is based at Linton, paraded around The Square in Palmerston North on Saturday.
Soldiers, riflemen on horseback and small tanks were all part of this spectacle which attracted many people from around the Manawatu, even on a day which was very drizzly and breezy! Governor General Sir Jerry Mateparae inspected the horses.
The QAMR served in both World...
Before I went on the Young Ambassadors Tour, I had an interview with the Manawatu Standard.
A man named John who saw the published article, got in touch with me through school. He asked me to take a picture of his uncle Donald Wallace Macnamara, and put it next to his name at the Caterpillar Valley Cemetery. I was more than happy to do this for him, as I could see it was of great importance to him and his family.
Visiting the Caterpillar Valley Cemetery was a very moving and emotional experience...
Kia Ora all,
It's been over a month since we returned from our trip, so a blog post is long overdue! We set out in July on our two week journey which took us to Paris, Northern France and Belgium.
In Paris we visited famous places such as Les Invalides, the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame. We were privileged enough to be official spectators of the Bastille Day Parade down the Champs Élysées, where we sat very close to the French President François Hollande. It was a lengthy parade showing off all...

This evening I met a man named John MacNamara. His uncle Private Donald Wallace MacNamara, was killed in the Battle of the Somme, only 6 days before my great-great-grandfather James Livingston. Pte MacNamara has a burial at the Caterpillar a Valley Cemetary, where Livingston has his memorial. John read in the Manawatu Standard article about the Young Ambassadors Tour, that we will be visiting the Caterpillar Valley Cemetery during the trip. He contacted me through my school, and...
Bonjour à tous,
On Friday the 11th April, my Mum and I went to the launch of the children's book 'Jim's Letters'. The story is written by Glyn Harper a Professor of War Studies at Massey University, with illustrations by Christchurch based artist Jenny Cooper. The pair also worked on the bestselling children's book 'Le Quesnoy', the story of the New Zealand liberation of the French town held by German forces in WWI. 'Jim's Letters' is a story told through letters between a young man named Jim...
Salut à tous!
I would like to start off by thanking the Awapuni Rotary and Milson Rotary Clubs from Palmerston North for their very generous donations towards the cost of the Young Ambassadors trip. It is much appreciated, and I look forward to speaking to them about the trip and my project outcomes.
On the 18th of March, the Manawatu Standard published an article about the Young Ambassadors Tour. I have included a picture of the article above. There is an important correction I would like to...
Bonjour tout le monde!
Je suis ravie d'avoir l'opportunité de créer et d'exécuter mon propre projet. Il sera un défi, mais un qui vaudra l'effort.
I have always been fascinated by national identities and how they come to be. So before my meeting with Pascale last Friday lunchtime (28th February), I knew I wanted to base my project around the theme of “identities”. However, I didn’t know how to approach this theme in the manner of a project. When talking with Pascale, she gave me examples of...
