Le reportage inédit d'un millier d'images réalisé par le photographe Charles Lansiaux (1855 - 1939) donne un témoignage exceptionnel de la vie de tous les jours pendant toute la durée de la guerre.
During our French trip in April 2014 I discovered this wonderful photo exhibition in Le Marais, organised by la Marie de Paris - completely par hasard! Charles Lansiaux is a photographer whose pictures were purchased by la Bibliothèque historique de la ville de Paris since the beginning of the war in 1914. Our 15 students were lucky to get a knowledgeable guide (un grand merci à la jeune femme!) who showed them around, explaining the impact of the First World War on the people of Paris. The photos show refugees from Belgium and North France on their way to the South, children playing war, long queues in front of shops and so much more.
