Forming Friendships and Footsteps

Forming Friendships and Footsteps

Kia ora koutou, bonjour à tous, hello everyone.

The trip to Wellington and the week spent with our French counterparts was incredible and something that will stick with me for years to come. The whole experience was filled with a plethora of moments that moved me deeply and others that filled me with happiness. It was an honour to take part in it.

I was excited and nervous headed up to Wellington on the plane as I was getting my head around the week’s proceedings. Everything fell into place...

A 100 years old topic of discussion.

Over the past month at Auckland Museum, a free exhibition was put together in order to re-discuss the controversies that were presented before the passing of the Military Service Act of 1916. My history teacher was the one who pointed me in the direction to this exhibition and so one weekend, I found myself attending this exhibition. It’s called “A Case for Conscription”  and what I witnessed was a reenactment debate on the issues of whether or not Maori should be conscripted and whether or...

From small towns to battle grounds

From small towns to battle grounds

Salut!

Thank you to everyone who has helped out with fundraising, especially the Whakatane West Rotary and Harvey Norman Whakatane.

My project is based on a few of the soldiers from the Whakatane area and also sharing some information about the pioneer battalion at the Somme. Thank you to the Whakatane research centre, Sonia Edwards and Sarndra Lees from Auckland war memorial museum for assisting me with finding information.

However In this post i’m going to share the story of a...

Nervous Energy in Wellington? No Way

Well, waking up at 5am in the morning was something I did genuinely have a build up of nervous energy for. (Sue me, I like to sleep in on Saturdays). But other than that, I shouldn’t have been worried about anything really. Dreading the part where I go home, asking myself whether or not I wanted to really commit to this project was plain idiotic. I have never been part of a project of such a large scale so of course I was getting cold feet about it, however by the end of the day, I realised...

Le commencement de quelque chose spécial!

Le commencement de quelque chose spécial!

Bonjour a tous!

Samedi Dernier

On 25th June, The 10 Young ambassadors voyaged from far and near to Wellington for a workshop at the Alliance Francaise, here is where we all met each other for the first time, shared research projects and fundraising ideas, talk about French and also had a chance to discover some more details for the grand expedition in Septembre. We were privileged to  attend a reception at the French Ambassador's residence.

Merci

I’d like to take this opportunity to...

A day at the Chemin des Dames

A day at the Chemin des Dames

Today the French students and the New Zealand students went on a day trip to the Chemin des Dames. They visited the underground museum called the 'Dragon's Cave' and walked to places on the battlefield. They learnt about the war and the 1917 Mutiny of French soldiers.
