As part of our study of WWI links between France and NZ we looked at how and why the poppy has become the symbol of soldiers who have fallen in war.

Very excited to read the research documents from our partners at the Val de Seine and enjoy continued contact between students and their partners.

Students from Baradene College of the Sacred Heart in Auckland, NZ and Lycée Professionnel Jean Macé, Chauny, France have worked together on a joint ambitious project to mark the anniversary of the First World War. The local  newspaper in Remuera, Auckland called "The Hobson" published an article about our project, book launch for "The Battle of Conscience" and the recent exhibition linked to this project. A large group of Baradene College students  presented an overview of the research project and the steps in creating the exhibition and book. They then read from sections of the book that we launched at the event. Finally they gave a presentation about the trip they went on to France. It was a great event. 

Great to see the support of people, especially parents and families of the students. But also great to Stephen from Defining Moments who drove down from Whagarei and History teachers from around Auckland and Waiheke Island. 

A very big crowd of people attended the opening of our exhibition at the Remuera Library in Auckland. It was fantastic to see so many people at the event.

Baradene College students have handed in our final work that is linked to the Shared Histories Project. We had to individually make up websites about our research that showed our understanding of the topics we researched. Our focus was to present key ideas on our topic that were then explained. We had to focus on the impact on people and the significance to New Zealanders. This work connected the project to the NCEA Assessment we are doing for Level 3. Our websites were for History AS 3.2...

This afternoon we went on a literary tour of the Somme battlefield. We visited the village of Frise, saw where German and French soldiers had trenches and discovered stories about the war written by the author Blaise Cendrars.
