Rangitoto College at Auckland War Memorial Dawn Service - ANZAC Day 2015

Written by SHTeam

Rangitoto College (Auckland NZ) students chose to involve themselves readily in the Centenary Anzac Celebrations.

Chloe, a student of French in year 11 at the College read at the Dawn Service held at the Auckland War Memorial on Anzac Day 2015. Chloe also went to Gallipoli to participate in a service there.

Here is the Dedication Chloe read at the Service:

ANZAC DEDICATION

At this hour

upon this day

Anzac received its baptism of fire

and became one of the immortal names in history.

We who are gathered here

think of the comrades who, then and since,

fought for freedom on land,

sea and in the air, but did not return.

We feel them still near us in the spirit.

We wish to be worthy of their great sacrifice.

Let us therefore,

once more dedicate ourselves to the service of the ideals,

for which they died.

As the dawn is even now about to pierce the night,

so let their memory inspire us to work

for the coming of new light

into the dark places of the world.

We will remember them.

Do you know anyone at your school who like Chloe as  contributed something extraordinary to remember and commemorate WW1?

Shared Histories would gladly help give it the exposure and longevity it deserves by adding it to its collection of mementos.

Contact Pascale Hyboud-Peron with a picture, some text and the name of the author and we'll be sure to feature it on Shared Histories.
